URGENT! A dangerous companion bill to FOFA, the deceptively named Save Our Sequoias Act (SOSA), has passed the House of Representatives and is awaiting consideration on the Senate floor.
Our sequoias need YOU to call your federal Senator and urge them to VOTE NO on SOSA!
Like FOFA, this new bill, which centers on giant sequoias, promotes streamlining thinning projects by relaxing environmental regulations, all in the name of wildfire risk mitigation. We know that thinning actually can contribute to wildfire risk by exposing the forest floor to increased heat and wind, creating a dangerous and volatile environment.
Thinning projects also impede on natural Sequoia regeneration, meaning less of these magnificent trees will make it to adulthood. The same issues that were present during the debate on FOFA are back in the form of the Save Our Sequoias Act.
